She wears the purple vest. She carries the authority to kill. But some hunts leave scars no tag can cover.
Riley Brooks is one of the elite few granted the power to enforce wildlife law with lethal force. When a target refuses to surrender, she doesn’t hesitate. The job is brutal, lonely, and necessary—or so she tells herself. Her latest assignment sends her deep into the mountains of Montana after Derek Harlan, a charismatic and ruthless trophy hunter who has left a trail of wasted animals and broken regulations in his wake.
What begins as another calculated takedown quickly becomes a fight for her life. Harlan’s crew is ready for trouble, and Riley soon finds herself outgunned, outnumbered, and forced to make decisions that will haunt her long after the snow melts. Alone in the cold, she must rely on every skill she’s honed… and the memory of the woman waiting for her return.
Lian has always been Riley’s anchor—the steady, loving presence who runs an animal rescue and refuses to let Riley disappear completely into the job. Their relationship is the warm heart of a cold world: intimate, passionate, and deeply supportive. But every time Riley leaves, there’s a chance she won’t come back the same. As the body count rises and the consequences of her actions begin to close in, Riley must face the hardest question of all: How much of herself is she willing to sacrifice to protect the wild places she loves—and the woman who loves her?
